Whenever disaster strikes or an emergency occurs, every town, every city has a team of individuals called FIRST RESPONDERS. They are the first people to show up; administer emergency assistance; and provide equipment. They bring stability and order to the chaos of disasters. First Responders are courageous, selfless and giving. They are the firefighters, police officers, medical technicians and others who are willing commit counter intuitive feats of bravery in the face of perilous times. They run towards danger while others run away. They elevate the good and safety of others above that of themselves. They run into burning buildings; dive into flood waters and test unstable ground moments after an earthquake.
Recently it occurred to me that everyone needs a team of First Responders. When the challenges of life knock at your front door, or break in through your window, you need a team of individuals in your life that can bring stability, aid and support. You need people who can buttress your faith and speak the Word of God in the middle of your crisis. You need Personal First Responders.
The job of your personal First Responders is to be the first on the scene to cover your situation with the Blood of Jesus. Then, they may need to administer mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to revive your spiritual know-how by speaking God’s Word and God’s Word ONLY to ensure your victory during what appears to be certain defeat. Finally, your personal First Responders may have to do what natural First Responders do: They may be forced to clear the area of anyone who may hinder the rescue operation in any way. For your personal First Responders, that may mean keeping people away from you who would continue to speak the “doom and gloom” of the situation. For example, while your are trusting God and saying, “…by His stripes I am healed,” they are ones who insist on repeating the doctor’s negative report. They are the gawkers and talkers who like to hang around to see what happens next, so they can tell everyone about it later. Every crisis situation has them. You’ll need your First Responders to CLEAR THOSE PEOPLE from your presence.
The best thing about your Personal First Responders is that they are both prayerful and practical. They will not only stir your spirit, but they’ll also stir up a pot of soup to prepare dinner for your family. They don’t just say they are praying, they demonstrate their love by being there for you. Your Personal First Responders are not talkers, they are speakers, and demonstrators. Personal First Responders show their love and support through their actions, not just their words.
When the magnitude of a situation tries to intimidate you and drive you to a place of fear, your First Responder will speak peace to your soul and whisper the promises of God in your ear. It may be via a phone call, a text message, a visit or a prayer. It may be all of the above. But your life needs a team of individuals who will stand in faith and uphold you in prayer (and practical ways, too) when you encounter the challenges of life. That team of individual is what I call your personal . . . First Responders.
Thank you for reading this week’s LifeSpeak for Living. Do you have a team of Personal First Responders? Would they be encouraged by this post? Share it and encourage them to subscribe. All “life speaking” comments are welcome. Have a GREAT WEEK! God Bless!
