If you are like me, you are one of the more than 32,000,000 people who recently watched the 2017 Academy Awards. The show was pretty predictable, that is, until the very end.
The very last award is always the biggest, most-anticipated award of the evening. It’s the Academy Award for Best Picture. If you want to see the video, you can find it on Youtube. Here’s what happened. One movie (La La Land) was announced as the winner. Upon hearing the announcement, everyone associated with the movie ….directors, producer, actors… screamed and ran for the stage. The acceptance speeches and tears began to flow. The fellow cast members were hugging, crying and . . . . But Wait!!! What? A Mistake? Seriously? A mistake had been made.
It turns out, that the Academy Award for Best Picture had been given to the wrong movie. Now, the official winners in the Best Movie category, begin to scream and hug, in disbelief, but still happy. Now, why am I telling you this?
Can you imagine being given the greatest gift of your life? Image the thrill of it. Just picture yourself basking in the joy of the moment…only to have someone say, “Wait, There’s been a mistake.” I watched as that historic, monumental faux pas unraveled with 32,000,000 others sharing in the disbelief. Then it occurred to me:
I am so thankful that, when God bestowed His unconditional love upon me, there was no worry that He might later discover that a mistake had been made. Even when I make mistakes, and I do, He won’t come tugging at my sleeve to tell me His love is no longer mine. His love is mine. Forever. His love is mine. For always. His love is mine. For keeps.
So, what do you say? Are you willing to accept God’s award of unconditional love? Here’s your LifeSpeak this Week assignment: For the next 7 days, say this simple prayer. “Thank you, God, for your unconditional, never-failing love. I know that there is nothing I can or will ever do to loose it. So, I accept it. I embrace it and I will share it with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen”
The Academy Awards are a big deal in the entertainment industry, I know. The Oscars were fun to watch. The pomp and circumstance, the gowns, the interviews . . . all fun to watch and, that gaffe at the end, was an honest mistake. But the love of God? Nothing compares to the big deal of God’s eternal, unconditional, He’ll-never-take-it-back-from-us kind of love. Forget the Oscars. When you know God’s love, and really accept it, the real winner will always be . . . YOU.
