Have you ever entered a room and heard someone shout, with genuine enthusiasm, “Look who’s here”? Awesome feeling, right? Why do I ask? Let me explain.
When my youngest daughter got old enough to navigate the stairs alone, I decided to make her morning trek down the stairs a BIG event…everyday. So, the first time it happened, she came downstairs, sleepy-eyed, and walked into the kitchen. That’s where she found me. When I saw her approaching, I smiled and said (in an overly excited voice), “Look Who’s Here!!!!
When I did this, she turned around to see who was standing behind her. “After all, Mommy couldn’t possibly be making such a big deal about me,” is what I could tell her sweet little face was thinking. So, she turned to look behind herself again, wondering, “Who IS here?” When she turned back to face me, still puzzled, I called her by name and shouted, “Yay!!!! Kylee is here!!!” Immediately, a huge smile spread across her face and she ran to me, giggling, jumped into my arms and gave me the biggest hug. That ” Look Who’s HERE!!!”announcement became our morning routine. And you know what? It was hardly a routine. There was new joy to be found in those moments, everyday, every time. They never got old. Those mornings were the makings of some of my favorite memories with my youngest daughter.
Recently, I was thinking about those mornings when it occurred to me that God feels the same way as I did. Let me explain. When we awake, first thing in the morning and, still sleepy-eyed, take time to go to God in prayer, our Heavenly Father feels the same way I felt as a mom. He says, “Hey!!! Look who’s here!!!” And the angels beam with excitement that we’ve chosen to make time with Him the first priority of our day. Those hugs I received each morning were the sweetest, simplest and sometimes, most soothing parts of my day.
Ask yourself: When was the last time anyone made you feel that they were genuinely excited that you were here? When was the last time you saw someone’s eyes light up because you walked into a room? If you’ll put God first each morning by spending time with Him in prayer (you can start with as little as 15 minutes), He’ll embrace you in a way that you’ll just know you’ve made His eyes light up. He’ll be so excited that you came.
Tomorrow morning, give God the opportunity to embrace you. Make God’s face light up. Let tomorrow morning be the day when God sees you coming to spend time with Him. You’ll make Him so happy, I can just imagine Him shouting to the angels . . . “Hey everyone! Look who’s here!!!”
