David, the musician-turned-King, who was called ” a man after God’s own heart,” says in Psalm 103 to “Bless the Lord with all that is within.” Then, he quickly admonishes, “Don’t Forget to Take the Benefits.” If you’re a person who loves God with all your heart, that’s awesome. If you’re just happy to be apart of His family, that’s great, too… but there is more. When God offers you access to His bounty of Blessings, I’ve got three words for you: Take the Benefits. Let me explain.
Imagine this: You’ve accepted a new job with a great company. You’re happy with the job title, description, and the salary . . . but wait: What about the benefits? Don’t forget the benefits. TAKE THE BENEFITS!! What do I mean? Benefits are the added-value opportunities, the privileges, services, or even, entitlements that you have a right to receive as a result of accepting a job and becoming an employee of a company. Some examples of these benefits may include:
Medical & Dental Insurance
Vision care plans
Short-Term & Long-term disability coverage
Retirement Savings plans
Benefits are offered as an incentive for you to join the company because, in addition to your salary, they improve the quality of your life. Now, Wouldn’t it be foolish to accept a job and then tell your new employer that you don’t want the benefits?
Those benefits are designed to save you money; improve your health; give you peace of mind and provide for your care as you age; and that’s just some of the advantages. So wouldn’t it be, may I say, “crazy”, to deny yourself of benefits that would not only enhance your life, but are also, rightfully yours?
Well, as ridiculous as it sounds, many Christians do that exact thing all the time. They don’t take the benefits. That’s right. When we accept Jesus as our savior, we gladly take the title, “Christian,” and we take the responsibility of living our lives, not perfectly, but sincerely for Him. And then, some of us do the most ridiculous thing: we leave the benefits on the table. Don’t believe me? Just read Psalm 103: 2 (NIV. It says “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits”
David wrote this to remind himself to Take (advantage of) the benefits.
Listen, If your employer is willing to provide you with a title, responsibility and salary, plus benefits, how much more has God done the same, and even more, for you? And yet, some of us forget the benefits; fail to access the benefits; and almost refuse to apply them to our lives. As a result, we experience challenges and difficulties in our lives that could have been overcome sooner or completely avoided. My advice: Take the benefits!!!
I know what you’re thinking: “Ok, Wilma, What’s included in a Christian’s benefits package?” For starters, just keep reading Psalm 103:
He forgives all your sins.
We’ve all made mistakes, make mistakes, and will make other mistakes in the future. It’s called living. But, do you understand that God forgives all your mistakes? Do you know that “all” means “all”? It means “every one of them”. Have you made a mistake? Take His forgiveness! Take the Benefit! In addition, look at this:
He heals all your diseases
Have you ever been sick? Ever get a serious diagnosis? Nothing is too hard for God. If the sickness has a name, God has a healing for it. Why? Because, again, “all” means “all.” It means, “every one of them.” Take the healing!!! Take the Benefit!! Furthermore . . .
He redeems your life from the pit
Now, most of us have never been in a real pit, but we’ve all been in situations from which we could not rescue ourselves. So, whether you’re in a pit of financial trouble, sickness, relationship battles, unforgiveness or fear, God can get you out of it. He can rescue you to such a degree that it will look as if your “pit-like” problem never even happened. Take His rescue from the pit!!!! Take the Benefit!
Finally, He also crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercy. Then He satisfies your mouth with good things so that your youth is renewed. Looking for the proverbial “fountain of youth”? There’s your anti-aging, right there!! The best part of all this is that these are just a few of the benefits; there are many more!
Consequently, no matter what challenge you may experience, either now or in the future, God has already provided the exact benefit that you need to overcome it, every time. If you’ve been leaving your “Godly promises on the table,” I got three words for you, Take the Benefits.
